“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
Verse: 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Do you love to bake apple pie yet building a table and chairs isn’t in your wheelhouse? Is praying and listening to others in their time of need where you feel called, but the thought of leading a youth group makes your pulse quicken? You know that’s okay, right? We’re all called to serve others with the talents we’ve been given by God, not with the gifts that others were blessed with.
We’re bestowed with abilities for a reason: to honor our Heavenly Father. The first step is recognizing where our talents actually are: hospitality, prophecy, faith, encouragement, giving, mercy and so many more. We all have at least one of these that show up in our lives and can be used to minister to others.
If you’re ready to serve in your community, God won’t leave you hanging. He equips everyone He calls. Not using your God-given talents means someone isn’t getting the message of faith, hope and love they so desperately need. Ask God to reveal where you can serve, who He’d like you to serve and how it should be done. Serving brings hope and goodness into the world. It is never intended to elevate ourselves but rather to raise high the name of God.
