Day 27 Devotional

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.”

Verse: Ephesians 5:1 (NIV)

Do you ever have days where you wonder if anything you do makes a difference? At times it feels as though people don’t care what they do, where they are or how their actions send a distinct message to others. How do we produce goodness in a world that seems bent on producing self-interests?

When we give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, it stirs goodness within us. There isn’t one person walking the earth who hasn’t experienced kindness from another. Their perspective may be too jaded or self-absorbed to see it. Yet that doesn’t mean someone hasn’t been touched by another’s goodness—an attribute of God. When you experience it, there’s an innate desire to pass it on.

Being kind is contagious. It’s like a room full of kindergarteners who know there’s a sticker in it for them at the end of the day when they are good citizens, care for their classmates and make good choices.

No one but God is truly good all the time. God’s goodness comes easily for Him because—well—He’s God. Yet when we practice what is preached, it becomes the natural way we do business. His generosity towards us is something we should yearn to pour onto others. Not because we’re all kinds of awesome, but because what God’s poured into us creates an overflow we can’t help but pass on to others.
