“With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”
Have you ever seen a drained lake? It’s quite a pitiful sight. It’s jarring to see the barren ground where water is meant to be. Also amidst the dirt is random debris—strewn pieces of garbage and items that had fallen overboard from folly or carelessness—sunglasses, fishing lures, watches and phones. In the absence of water, the lake is lifeless.
Water is life. Did you know that 71% of the Earth is made up of water? And 60% of the human body is water. Your brain and heart, lungs and skin, kidneys and even bones are all composed of H20. It’s so crucial that although you could go weeks without sustaining yourself with food, you can only survive an average of three days without consuming water.
When the Bible speaks of drawing water from the wells of salvation, it’s a reminder that Christ provides living water that nourishes you in mind, body and spirit. This salvation is so abundant that you don’t have to worry about running out of it. The salvation God provides will not dry up like a drained lake. Quite the contrary. Whatever you are thirsting for—whether it be compassion, comfort, confidence or simply a reminder that everything will be okay—Christ will provide it, time and time again. So, drink up, and soak in the life-changing effect of the Spirit of God.
