Day 7 Devotional

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”

Verse: Luke 2:19 (NIV)

Remember as a kid when you would lie down on the grass and stare up into the sky to watch the clouds drift by? As the wind shifted and blew, the clouds changed shape right before your eyes. One minute you could spot an elephant, the next a heart. If you really let your imagination run wild, you may ironically see a cow dunking a cookie in a glass of milk. After a while, you let your eyes flutter shut to let your other senses heighten. You catch the wafting scent of freshly laid mulch, the distant roar of a lawnmower engine and the tickle on your ankle from a particularly prickly blade of grass. As you soak in the moment, it’s impossible not to appreciate all the feels.

This is an activity you should continue to participate in well into adulthood. It’s so easy to get lost in the craziness of life—to move so fast that you aren’t attentive to or grateful for all the good surrounding you. The phrase, “Take time to stop and smell the roses” rings true. Generations of people get caught up in the harried nature of life, going through their days as if on autopilot. Purposefully setting aside time to take a picture—even a mental one—helps you hold good things close to your heart so that you may reflect on all the good things that come from Jesus.
